On September 19, 2016, ROOT SPORTS announced a new, extended relationship with West Virginia University that will bring Mountaineer programming to the network’s slate of Wild & Wonderful Sports through the 2021-2022 academic year. The five-year extension will begin this fall with West Virginia University football and will mark the sixth season of Wild & Wonderful Sports programming on ROOT SPORTS, demonstrating the network’s strong commitment to providing meaningful and superior collegiate sports coverage to its viewers.
Under the extended Wild & Wonderful Sports line-up, ROOT SPORTS will produce and air:
- One (1) 2017 West Virginia University Football Game; WVU vs. Delaware State on Saturday, September 16
- 2017-18 West Virginia University Men's Basketball Games
- 2017-18 West Virginia University Women's Basketball Games
The network will also televise:
- West Virginia University Football Press Conferences with Head Coach Dana Holgorsen
- Additional 2017 West Virginia University Football Games if available
- West Virginia University Coaches Shows
- West Virginia University Football Pregame Shows (Mountaineer Gameday)
The new five-year agreement guarantees ROOT SPORTS coverage of at least one Mountaineer football game each season, plus will feature extensive coverage of WVU men's and women's basketball and other sports.
Nexstar Media enters its fifth season as the home of WVU sports across the state of West Virginia as part of the West Virginia University’s multimedia rights agreement with IMG College.
WVMH will produce and distribute the following programs throughout the upcoming season:
- The Dana Holgerson Show – 9 a.m. on Saturday’s during football season
- The Bob Huggins Show – 9 a.m. on Saturday’s during basketball season
- The WVU Coaches Show – 10 a.m. on Saturday’s from April through August
- Mountaineer Gameday – 10 a.m. on Saturday’s during football season
